Loopit Board Game - Review & Giveaway - Goliath Games

Closed - Winner Jennifer - Congrats
It was definitely family game weekend at the Groschen Household this weekend.  We had so much fun!  A stress-free, no place to go, fun weekend!  And lucky for us, Goliath Games also sent us Loopit to try as well!

Loopit is a game is for ages 7+ with 2-4 players.  Joe and Kayla decided to take it on and it was great for step-dad/step-daughter time.  They compared it to scrabble with math.  Cell phones with calculators were definitely taken out!!  They agreed it was a lot of fun and will take some practice.  Interestingly, my younger kids took it out, loved the tiles and made up their own game-completely different than it was designed for.  Very cool-way to use our imaginations!!  They've taken it out several more times to do the same thing!

The Webiste description is as follows:

Think Scrabble® meets logic and you’ve got an idea for how this great family game works. Connect your tile to any of the twisting lines on the board and score points based on the point value of the tile you played, the place you played it and other neighboring tiles. This international sensation is new to the U.S. but a great new twist on an old favorite.

Want to learn how to play? Go to http://www.youtube.com/Goliathgames and we show you how to play our games in four minutes or less.

All in All we gave Loopit a thumbs up to join the Groschen Game List. The Groschens Love Goliath Games! And we hope to check out all the other games!(Hint, Hint)  Thanks to Goliath Games for providing us with Loopit and That's It! for a very special fun weekend!!

Buy it/Gift it:
Loopit is $29.99 and can be purchased HERE.

Tuck it:

That's It! Children's Board Game Review & Giveaway - Goliath Games

Closed-Winner abfantom-Congrats!

That's it!  We LOVE playing board games in our house!  We love spending that time together laughing and goofing!  My husband, Joe, works alternating shifts.  One week on 1st shift, the next on 2nd Shift, than back on 1st.  So, family fun time is treasured as much as our family dinner time.

Goliath Games contacted me to do a review of their Children's Board Game "That's It!"  "That's It!" is very similar to the very familiar "Guess Who?", but much better!  The 1st thing is, the construction of the game.  I know, not something you would normally notice or look for, but if any of you have a recent edition of Guess Who, you'll know that you have to pop in individual pictures into each window and they pop-out constantly.  I won't even get it out anymore.  As soon as I get the pictures in their windows, 1/2 of them pop back out.  That's It  game comes with single sheets of pictures that you slide in AND it comes with several different sheets.  Each player picks a secret picture. The object of the game is to find out what image your opponents have chosen before they find yours. You find out by asking yes or no questions: Does your animal have four legs? Does your animal fly? Does your animal swim in the water? The game comes with four different sets of images so you can play over and over.

We LOVE this game!  It is fun for all our kids ages 14, 10, 8 and 6 and Mom and Dad too!

Buy it/Gift it:
That's it! is $19.99 and can be purchased HERE.

Tuck it:
Purchase for a Tuck Away gift for a child in your life or a fun birthday gift from your child to a friend/classmate!

Win it:
Goliath Games is going to let me give one of my fabulous readers a game for their family!  Hooray!!  Here's what you have to do:

Joanie Leeds - "I'm a Rock Star" - Rock Jammin' Children's CD Review & Giveaway

Closed-Winner aledol-Congrats!

Sometimes you gotta let loose with the kids...When things are too quiet in the van on the way to school and you want to pep them up....Everybody's cranky and fighting,   stop.....drop.....and rock!!

And I was sent the perfect CD just for these moments.  I like to Get Groovy with the Groschens and Joanie Leeds!

I was sent a pre-released copy of Joanie Leeds "I'm a Rock Star" for review.  What a fun CD!!  And the variety of types of music was fun.  It was a little rock, a little country , a little jazzy.  All sorts of fun!  Our favorite is called "More Cowbell Please" - a hip hop type of song.

Joanie's debut children’s album, City Kid, won her a 2008 Parent's Choice Award and her soulful, "rock solid" voice - plus her remarkable ability to connect with kids through her songwriting was praised highly.  You can check out City Kid and Joanie's Cool Website HERE.

Joanie says, “I love the way City Kid, turned out, but I wanted to bring a more sophisticated sound to I’m a Rock Star. The blueprint for I'm A Rock Star includes exploration, self-expression, and variety, all in a musically authentic context. I wanted everything to be fun and positive, but it was also important for me not to make musical compromises. Kids deserve no less than an authentic musical experience. The magic really began when, on tour in Nashville last year, I met some incredible musicians, and we ended up recording together at the amazing Zodlounge music production studio. (Zodlounge has produced albums for artists like Kenny Loggins and Leann Rimes.) These guys – the musicians and my production team -- really took this project to the next level. I'm so excited about the way the album turned out that I can't wait for the release!”

Joanie Leeds will release I’m a Rock Star, on March 23.  But guess what, One Lucky Goblin Reader will get their own pre-released copy of "I'm a Rock Star"  Hooray!  Here's What you gotta do:

NOTE: VERY IMPORTANT!!! PLEASE LEAVE ME AN EMAIL SO I CAN GET A HOLD OF YOU IF YOU WIN. I HAD SO MANY PEOPLE NOT LEAVE THEIR CONTACT INFO ON MY LAST CONTESTS!

Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce Review & Giveaway - 2 Bottles / 2 Winners

Closed - Winners joahsgrandma and clynsg - Congrats!
Very Tasty!

I have seen Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce Giveaways all over the Blogosphere for months now.  As a marinade specialist, I have been very jealous.  I have not been able to try it because it is not sold in our state yet.  So, I contacted Country Bob's and they sent me out their All Purpose Sauce along with some great recipe ideas.  Now, I am not a recipe follower, at all, but I wanted to follow one of their receipe's so I could get an idea of how their sauce really tasted.  Generally, I am a throw a little of this and that and whatever is in the house type cooker!  I decided on the meatloaf, a family fave.  Here is the receipe:

1 1/2 lbs lean hamburger
1/4 cup chopped onions
12 crushed saltine crackers
2 eggs, beaten
1 T Country Bob's Seasoning Salt
1/4 tsp pepper
3/4 cup Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce (or may substitute Spicy)
1/4 cup milk

Methods/steps

Mix all ingredients together, place in baking dish, shape in loaf, pour a little more Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce on top and bake at 350 degrees for one hour.

I followed the recipe exactly, but I did doubled it for our family size and leftovers (Yummy!)  and I did not have Country Bob's Seasoning Salt (Hint Hint...Country Bob).  Also, I'd like to try the Spicy All Purpose Sauce (Hint, Hint...Country Bob)  And, of course, the Country Bob's Barbeque Sauce would be yummy too (Last Hint :)

It was SOOO good.  The ENTIRE family gave a thumbs up...I'm not sure how to feel about that since they loved my meatloaf...hmmm...lol) The only change I'd make is to add more crackers.  It was a little loose.
 Clover Thumbs Up
All in All we give it a thumbs up and I look forward to using it in tons of other ways.  Thank you to Country Bob for providing me with the sauce!
Gift it:
Country Bob's Sauces would make an excellent unique gift for any occasion.  A 1/2 case of Country Bob's Sauce is $19.00.  See all the products and pricing HERE.
Tuck it:
My fave idea.  And an excellent idea for this tasty sauce.  Buy a 1/2 or full case and bring it for a house warming gift or host/hostess gift!  Great idea!
Win it:
Country Bob's is going to bless 2 of my readers with 2 bottles each of their All Purpose Sauce - Hooray!

NOTE: VERY IMPORTANT!!!  PLEASE LET ME AN EMAIL SO I CAN GET A HOLD OF YOU IF YOU WIN.  I HAD SO MANY PEOPLE NOT LEAVE THEIR INFO ON MY LAST CONTESTS!

Bye Bye Baby - Hello Old Friend

Our youngest daughter Gracie loved her pacifier. She called it her tee tee. We finally pried it out of her mouth right before she started Kindergarten - LOL. Our thought was, seriously, what harm does it really do? Are we going to be kicking ourselves for not taking it away from her earlier? Is she going to grow up with some issue because we didn't take her tee tee away earlier? I don't think so.

Gracie and I went grocery shopping on Saturday. For some reason, we went down the baby/pet aisle, which we never do, because we don't have pets or babies in our house anymore. We strolled right by the baby section where she saw a huge selection of pacifiers. She ran up to them, held out her arms like she was hugging them and said "Mommy, look at all these tee tee's!" Like she saw an old friend and wanted to hug them all. It was the sweetest thing. I actually wanted to get her one.

Gracie is a peanut. She is not on the "charts". She still has the "baby face" look about her and I could still picture her in my head with a tee tee in her mouth. Gracie was diagnosed with growth hormone defiency. She is producing very little growth hormone. Gracie was prescribed Nutropin, which is a growth hormone, and gets her first injection tomorrow. Our daughter Samantha was diagnosed with growth hormone defiency last spring and has been on Nutropin for about 6 months. We've seen excellent growth results in her. But, as I'm preparing myself and Gracie to start on growth hormone, I get the typical thoughts of wanting her to stay little for as long as possible. I don't want her to grow. I can still cradle her in my arms and kiss that baby soft skin.

So, as my daughter says Hello to her old friends, her tee tees. I say Bye Bye to my Baby and prepare myself for a young lady. Happiness and Sadness at the same time.

My Teen and Her Slankie - The Slanket Review

My 14-yr old daughter loves her blankets.  She was always (and still is) a "Snug as a Bug in a Rug" kid.  She has a favorite that she got for her 12th birthday that she hauls around everywhere - friends houses, church trips, you name it.  When I noticed all the reviews and giveaways going on for The Slanket in the blogosphere, I contacted them to enquire about doing a review on my blog, with Kayla in mind.  They were happy to send me one in Ruby Red.  She loves it.  We all do.  It is super soft & cuddly.  It is perfect for our Minnesota cold weather.  It is long and not easy to walk around with, but if you're staying put somewhere it's great.  Also, it would make a great Valentines Day Gift.  I don't know about you, but Valentine's Day makes me think of snuggles.

The Slanket is available in several colors and can be purchased from TheSlanket.com for $32.99. A portion of sales are donated to three different organizations: H2O Africa, Natural Resources Defense Council and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The Joy of Soap - $40 Gift Certificate Giveaway - Ends 1/29/10

I love bath and body products.  They just make you feel good and relaxed.  I was searching for some wonderful bath products for my Valentine's Day Gift Guide and came across The Joy of Soap.

I have very dry skin.  In part because I live in Minnesota and the weather here dries your skin out and partly because I have hypothroidism and take medication that really dries out my skin  I was impressed that their soaps were all natural.  The Joy of Soap uses essential oils which are highly concentrated substances (derived from flowers, leaves, seeds, roots and resins of plants) that contain chemical compounds with antiseptic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties. They do not use perfumes and fragrances which are synthetic chemicals that do not have any medicinal or aroma therapeutic value. Also, fragrances are known irritants and can cause allergic reactions.

Also, their soap are anti-bacterial.  Their hand made soap is an effective way to eliminate about 99.9% of all microbes (bacteria, fungi and viruses) from the skin. Unnatural antimicrobials found in most commercially made soaps are leading to rapid resistance of microbes in the environment. The Joy of Soap uses many essential oils known for their antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Their natural soaps help to maintain the delicate balance between the world and organisms.

I was sent the Ginger Snap, Lay Me Down Lavender, Feeling Frisky, and Manly Man.  I tried the Ginger Snap Soap the same day it arrived.  I loved the scent.  It smalled lovely (I love Ginger!), but it was not an overpowering scent.  The teenager tried the Lay Me Down Lavender and Feeling Frisky.  She liked them both.  Hubby tried the Manly Man.  He also liked the scent and appreciated that it was not an overpowering scent.  We all thought that the bars of soap will last longer than the liquid body soaps that we normally use.  I think that we all use more of it then we really need and therefore go thru it quickly.

The Joy of Soap also will customize scents you like by contacting them.  Overall, I loved their soaps and loved the nice long hot bath I had with my Ginger Snap soap.  Their prices are reasonable at $3.50 for a 2 oz. and $7.50 for a 5 oz.  Especially since they will last a lot longer than soaps you purchase in the stores.  They absolutely are a great gift too, for any occasion!

Chocomize - Create Your Own Chocolate Bars $25 Gift Certificate Giveaway - Ends 1/29/10

What's Valentine's Day without Chocolate (or any day, really)?  I think that if I searched the internet I could probably find some obscure law in some country that states that you must give chocolates on Valentine's Day.  So, I was perusing the internet for my Valentine's Day Gift Guide and came across the Chocomize website.  This company customizes your chocolate bars any way you want.  Here's how it works:

First, you choose a base chocolate bar from three premium chocolate options: dark, milk or white. Once you have chosen your base chocolate flavor, you add up to five toppings. Choose your toppings from a selection of 80 fruits, nuts, herbs, spices, candy and decorations. Once you have finished designing the flavor combinations with all of your toppings the chocomize team will construct your bar by hand! Once they have finished crafting your personal chocolate bar they will have it shipped and on your doorstep within a few days.

I was a little overwhelmed by the selection of ingredients and knew that if I chose the toppings it would just end up tasting like a Snickers Bar.  So, I went out of my comfort zone and chose two of their most popular combinations.  I chose two bars with dark chocolate.  I am not a fan of dark chocolate, but I ordered them anyway.  They arrived within 2 days.  I had to rip into them immediately.  YUMMY!  I couldn't believe how much I liked the dark chocolate.  Here are the two bars I chose: Made with Dark Chocolate - 3.5oz (100g),
23 Karat Gold Flakes, Chocolate Butterfly, Strawberries, and Rose Petals.

The Romance Bar - $12.75

Made with Dark Chocolate - 3.5oz (100g), Black Peppercorns, Mini Chipotles and Cayenne Pepper.

The Spicy Special Bar $4.75

They both were incredibly delicious.  And the pricing is very reasonable for custom order chocolates!

And on a final note, I always favor companies that contribute to charities.  It shows the highest of character in my book.  Chocomize gives 10% of their profits to Team Fox (The Michael J. Fox Foundation), Action Against Hunger, and Doctor Without Borders.  In addition, when checking out, they offer the customer the option of making an additional donation to those three charities.  Please take the time to read about their company and founders HERE:

Gift it:
Good for any special person in your life and at such affordable prices.  Let your imagination go wild and custom order a chocolate just for them. Or, purchase a gift certificate and let them do the creating.  A fun and original spin on an oldie but goodie!

Tuck it:
A Gift Certificate is the best idea for tucking it away with chocolate, but, a good original idea.  Good for the chocolate lovers in your family.

Win it:
The wonderful group at Chocomize is going to bless one of my wonderul readers with a $25 Gift Certificate.
